Alabama Oil and Gas Lease Sale Delayed Due to ‘Widespread Protest’

After high level talks in Washington, D.C. between environmental legal advocates in consultation with the U.S. Forest Service and Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management has decided to delay pending oil and gas leases in Alabama national forests “in the face of widespread protest there,” according to the Washington Post, which broke the story Friday.

The lease sale, scheduled for June 14, was to auction the rights to energy exploration on nearly 90,000 acres of Forest Service land in four states — Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. But according to the Post, the agency announced Friday it would delay the Alabama auction.  …”
